The idea for the name came to me from the phrase "Marmalade Dropper", which is based on the reaction someone might have when reading a shocking article in a morning newspaper at the breakfast table. Of course, the prospect of marmalade dropping from a knife or slice of toast and landing on the lap of the astonished reader has to be a distinctly British concept.

Marmalade Drops was in its first iteration a column I wrote for Asian Voice in 2009. I very much enjoyed imagining Indian aunties and uncles being scandalised by my articles and dropping the chundo (Indian jam) off their theplas (an Indian breakfast flatbread). I have resurrected the name for poems that I have been writing over the last 10 years. Finally, I have found the courage to share them.
